And here is a happy bonus. It is a great time to start your holiday shopping. When you shop resale, you can find lovely gifts for a fraction of what they cost new. A special bag for a dear friend, a cozy sweater set aside for winter, a treasure for someone you love. You give wonderful gifts, you save money, and you get a head start on your list, all while everyone else is still thinking about summer.
And since it is far too warm to bake, here is a sweet little no bake treat you can make with no oven at all. We call them Christmas in July no bake cookies. Here is how. In a saucepan, melt together half a cup of butter, two cups of sugar, half a cup of milk, and a quarter cup of cocoa powder, and let it gently boil for about a minute. Take it off the heat and stir in half a cup of peanut butter and a teaspoon of vanilla until smooth. Then stir in three cups of quick oats. Drop spoonfuls onto wax paper and let them set until firm. Add a few red and green sprinkles on top while they are still soft for a festive touch. That is all it takes. Cool, sweet, and merry, and the kids can help too.
